Plant Riverside District will host the 2023 Shamrocks and Shenanigans Celebration in honor of St. Patrick’s Day from Saturday, March 11 through Sunday, March 19 along Savannah’s riverfront at 400 W. River St. All events are open to the public.
This popular nine-day event at Plant Riverside District will offer free live music by more than 30 bands on two riverfront stages, family-friendly activities and photos with Lucky the Leprechaun as well as festive food and drink options for all ages and St. Patrick’s Day-themed merchandise.
The 2023 Shamrocks and Shenanigans festivities will kick off on Saturday, March 11 at 1 p.m. and will feature free live music throughout the afternoon and evening. Highlights include country sensation Lyn Avenue at 1 p.m., acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter Natalie Goodman at 4:30 p.m., accordionist Bob Taylor at 5 p.m. the Irish Pipe and Drums Corps at 6:30 p.m. and the high-energy Nick Poulin Band at 7:15 p.m. Food and drink specials will be available at Plant Riverside District throughout the day and night.
A special Shamrock the Riverwalk Lighting Ceremony, led by The Kessler Collection’s Chairman and CEO Richard C. Kessler, will serve as a highlight on Saturday March 11, with the Irish Pipe and Drums Corps performing at 6:30 p.m. and the official lighting ceremony taking place at 7 p.m. on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Stage. Plant Riverside District’s iconic smokestacks, fountains and other familiar landmarks will be illuminated with green lighting, followed by a live performance by the Irish Pipe and Drums Corps and the Nick Poulin Band.
The legendary Celtic Tenors will take the stage at District Live on Wednesday, March 15 and Thursday, March 16 at 8 p.m. for two special performances showcasing stunning Celtic songs, exhilarating classics, a capella music and popular contemporary songs. Tickets to see this internationally acclaimed trio are $50 in advance and $55 the day of the event. Tickets are currently available at www.plantriverside.com/district-live.
Throughout the week, a wide range of artists will perform free live music on Plant Riverside District’s outdoor stages daily. Highlights include The Eric Culberson Band on Monday, March 13 at 5 p.m; Voodoo Soup on Tuesday, March 14 at 5 p.m.; the Natalie Goodman Band on Wednesday, March 15 at 6 p.m.; the Parris Island Marine Band on Thursday, March 16 at 2:45 p.m.; and the Rockland County Police Emerald Society Pipes and Drums Band on Thursday, March 16 at 7 p.m. In addition, the Shindig Savannah Dance Group will perform live on Thursday, March 16 at 5:30 p.m.
On St. Patrick’s Day, Plant Riverside District will feature free live outdoor entertainment along the riverfront, including the Whitley Deputy Band at 11 a.m., the Nick Poulin Band at 2 p.m., the Marcus Gullen Band at 6 p.m. and Smokey Jones and The 3 Dollar Pistols at 8:30 p.m. Myrtle and Rose will host a live performance by JD Music Group from 7 to 10 p.m., with a $20 cover charge. Irish-themed food and drink specials will be available throughout the day and night.
In addition, Electric Moon Skytop Lounge will host a lively Shamrocks and Shenanigans Party on Friday, March 17 from noon until midnight for adults ages 21 and up, featuring Voodoo Soup performing live from 1 to 4 p.m. and DJ Lil G from 6 p.m. to midnight. Highlights include dancing on the Moon Deck, specialty cocktails, hourly prize drawings and more. There will be a $20 admission fee at the door.
The fun will continue throughout the St. Patrick’s Day weekend, with free live music, family-friendly activities and Irish-themed food and drink. On Saturday, March 18, the Savannah Ghost Pirates will set up a slapshot booth from 1 to 6 p.m. Electric Moon will feature Individually Twisted live in concert from 2 to 5 p.m. and a live DJ from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., both with a $20 cover charge.
Plant Riverside District will also host a St. Patrick’s Cookie Decorating experience on Saturday, March 18 at 5 p.m. in Turbine Cafe, offering the opportunity for kids of all ages to decorate and take home fresh-baked cookies as well as a chef’s hat and apron. Tickets are $20 and are available online at www.plantriversidedistrict.com.
Additional family-friendly highlights include photos with Lucky the Leprechaun and fountain shows featuring the Savannah Children’s Choir’s recording of “Let There be Peace on Earth” and music from “Riverdance.” Plant Riverside District will also host a Sunday Jazz Brunch at Myrtle and Rose as well as a Gospel Sunday Brunch at District Live on Sunday, March 19.
