  • UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium 30 Ocean Science Circle Savannah, GA (map)
back to main

Step into the world of archaeology with this family-friendly program that brings Skidaway Island’s history to life. Guided by a marine educator, participants will discover coastal cultures of the past through artifacts uncovered during a recent UGA archaeological study.

Together, we’ll examine pottery fragments left behind by the island’s early inhabitants, sort pieces from a teaching collection, and create our own clay pots using simple, traditional techniques. After the hands-on activities, we’ll take a short, easy walk through the maritime forest and along the salt marsh in areas once used by the Guale people and still vital to coastal life today.

Registration is required for participants ages 3 and up and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium. Content is best suited for ages 9 and up, but all ages are welcome. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Strollers are not permitted in the program space but can be stored in the lobby during the program. Tickets are nonrefundable.

Cost: $15
