Greater Tuna is a sharp-witted and wildly funny live stage comedy that takes you to the quirky, fictional small town of Tuna, Texas—the “third-smallest” in the state. Performed by a cast of just two actors, Savannah Theatre favorites Mike Zaller and Nathan Houseman, playing dozens of eccentric characters, the show satirizes small-town life with heart and hilarity. From gleefully nosy neighbors to bizarre radio DJs and local officials, Greater Tuna delivers rapid-fire humor, clever observations, and unforgettable personalities in a rollicking theatrical celebration of rural American culture.

Step into the world of archaeology with this family-friendly program that brings Skidaway Island’s history to life. Guided by a marine educator, participants will discover coastal cultures of the past through artifacts uncovered during a recent UGA archaeological study.

Together, we’ll examine pottery fragments left behind by the island’s early inhabitants, sort pieces from a teaching collection, and create our own clay pots using simple, traditional techniques. After the hands-on activities, we’ll take a short, easy walk through the maritime forest and along the salt marsh in areas once used by the Guale people and still vital to coastal life today.

Registration is required for participants ages 3 and up and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium. Content is best suited for ages 9 and up, but all ages are welcome. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Strollers are not permitted in the program space but can be stored in the lobby during the program. Tickets are nonrefundable.

Wonders of the Wurlitzer: The Kid

back to main

Experience the majesty of the Wurlitzer at this special screening of Charlie Chaplin’s first full-length feature, presented with live accompaniment by renowned organist Ron Carter. THE KID marks not only a milestone in Chaplin’s career but also an artistic turning point which endures today as an expressive masterwork of silent cinema. In the film, Chaplin’s beloved Tramp raises an abandoned child (a remarkable young Jackie Coogan) he rescues from the streets. Together, they form a miraculous duo in this deft blend of sentiment and slapstick, or as its opening title card states, “a picture with a smile—and perhaps, a tear.”

Tickets for the event are free for SCAD Card holders, $10 for students, military, and seniors, and $15 for the general public.

Join us for a night of immersive projections by the Medeology Collective, Diana Reichenbach, Melissa Huang and Michael Betancourt, PULSE exhibitions, and media art projects by SCAD student organizations XR Women and Loop, and a screening of a sci-fi cult classic!

'Fantastic Planet' (1973, 72 min.) | Screening: 6:30pm

Don’t miss this rare big screen presentation of director René Laloux’s acclaimed, trippy animated classic 'Fantastic Planet.' The film is set on a distant planet called Ygam, where humans (Oms) are the playthings of giant blue native inhabitants (Draags). “With its eerie, coolly surreal cutout animation by Roland Topor; brilliant psychedelic jazz score by Alain Goraguer; and wondrous creatures and landscapes, this Cannes-awarded 1973 counterculture classic is a perennially compelling statement against conformity and violence.”

HSF Lecture Series: Daufuskie Island, Preserving a Family Home and Protecting a Gullah Geechee Legacy

HSF is delighted to welcome Sallie Ann Robinson as the January speaker for our lecture series, “The People, Stories, and Places that define Savannah.” Ms. Robinson will be presenting “Daufuskie Island: Preserving a Family Home & Protecting a Gullah Geechee Legacy” on Thursday, January 15 at 6:00 pm.

Daufuskie Island, located off the coast of South Carolina and only reachable by boat, has a rich Gullah Geechee history. Once home to a thriving Gullah community, today, few Gullah residents remain living on the island. Ms. Robinson is a sixth-generation Gullah native, who, upon returning to the island, realized the importance of restoring the ancestral home in which she was born and sharing the history of the community, which she also does daily via tours and culinary history programs.

The house, which sits off-the-beaten track on Daufuskie, was home to generations of her family. By preserving it, she intends to honor the home’s important stories, as well as share them with future generations. The home stands as a testament to the history of historically Black communities in the Lowcountry, and why it is important to protect this Gullah Geechee legacy.

This lecture will take place at the Murray C. Perlman and Wayne C. Spear Preservation Center, located at 323 E. Broughton Street. Doors will open at 5:30 pm for a wine reception and the discussion starts at 6:00 pm. Admission is free for HSF members and $15 for non-members. Both members and non-members may reserve their spot by visiting www.myhsf.org/events/lecture-series/.

Off the Wall: Annual Small Works Exhibition

back to main

ARTS Southeast is pleased to present "Off the Wall," our annual exhibition of affordable small works by ARTS Southeast Supporters, on display from August 14th, 2025 – January 17th, 2026.

* * * * * * * * * *

Each year, "Off the Wall" gives art lovers the chance to collect and gift affordable works by our community of emerging and established Artist Supporters. Work may be taken directly at the time of purchase, meaning the exhibition evolves over the course of its run. Originally a tradition for the holiday gifting season, this year’s "Off the Wall" runs longer than ever, from early fall into the new year.

"Off the Wall" 2025 showcases photography, ceramics, painting, printmaking, collage and more, with subjects ranging from abstraction and play to introspection and the natural world. Whether you’re starting or expanding your art collection or want to share the gift of art with a loved one, this year’s "Off the Wall" features 30 local artists to love.

Please note that the gallery will be closed from December 13th, 2025 – January 7th, 2026. Be sure to pick up any works for holiday gifting by Friday, December 12th! Works are also available for purchase at artssoutheast.org/offthewall

SCAD Cinema Circle: All the President's Men

Robert Redford bought the rights to this riveting true story of investigative journalism and went on to both produce the film and star as Bob Woodward. Joined by an incredible partner in Dustin Hoffman as Carl Bernstein, the film follows their dogged investigation of a seemingly minor break-in that uncovers the greatest political scandal in US history. Nominated for eight Academy Awards, this classic from political-thriller master Alan J. Pakula meticulously depicts the Watergate investigation in its full scope, resulting in what is widely considered one of the most influential films of the 20th century. At once a spellbinding detective story and one of cinema’s most incisive portraits of the press, Woodward and Bernstein’s quest to uncover the truth remains a powerful reminder of journalism’s ability to hold leaders accountable.

Tickets are free for SCAD Card holders; $5 for students, seniors, and military; and $8 for the general public.

Soldier Saturday

  • Ft. McAllister State Historic Park (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Stop by to speak with a living historian portraying a Civil War soldier about Fort McAllister's history and experience a musket firing demonstration.

Cost: Program is included with regular fort admission (no ParkPass required).

ABOUT FORT MCALLISTER:

Located south of Savannah on the banks of the Ogeechee River, Fort McAllister showcases the best-preserved earthwork fortification of the Confederacy. The earthworks were attacked seven times by Union ironclads but did not fall until 1864 -- ending Gen. William T. Sherman’s “March to the Sea.” Visitors can explore the grounds with cannons, a furnace, bombproof, barracks, palisades and more, while a Civil War museum contains artifacts, a video and gift shop.

Nestled among giant live oaks, Spanish moss and salt marsh, this park is a beautiful location for camping, fishing, boating and picnicking. Seven cabins sit on stilts near the marsh, surrounded by palm trees and palmettos. The shaded campground is bordered by tidal Redbird Creek, a boat ramp, fishing dock and nature trail. A large picnic area offers river views and playgrounds, while another boat ramp provides access to the Ogeechee River.

For more information, visit www.gastateparks.org/FortMcAllister or call the park office at 912-727-2339.
