This hands-on program takes you behind the scenes of oyster research and offers an up-close look at how these incredible animals shape our coast.
We’ll begin with a guided tour of the UGA Shellfish Research Lab, where you’ll see how oyster seed is spawned and grown for local farmers. Then, head to the plankton lab at the UGA Aquarium for a hands-on oyster dissection. An educator will guide you through the oyster’s anatomy, showing how its filtering system works, and you’ll even create a wet mount to view under the microscope. Join us for a rare, magnified glimpse at this fanatic filter feeder in action!
Registration is required for participants ages 3 and up, and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium. Cost: $15.
